RAILWAYS OF SWEDEN DVD
RAILWAYS OF SWEDEN Gothenburg is a great place to start our tour - it has the most complete train system in Scandinavia. But our objective is the north and we travel there via Hallsberg, where the high speed line between Gothenburg and the capital is bisected by the great freight route between north and south, Orebro and Borlange. On the way we shall see the ASEA Rc family, X2000s, the new REGINA EMU and Norwegian interlopers! Nowadays there are over twenty private companies operating on the Swedish rail network and we get to see Svenska Tagkompaniet or TKAB, Tag i Bergslagen or TiB and naturally Green Cargo the 'private company' that now runs the former SJ freight business. One of the most interesting stops is at the delightful little town of Mora where the main line meets the Inlandsbanan and freight is handed over for a ponderous journey north. Along the Baltic coast we visit Sundsvall, Umea and eventually Lulea. The iron ore railway is explored from coast to coast and the latest super power is seen at work. Then as a special treat for freight fans we travel to Haparanda to watch standard gauge wagons being prepared for their journey into Finland. A stunning railway filmed, mostly, in glorious weather!
